While attending the Fall 2015 American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Semi-Annual meeting in October, South Dakota nursing leaders met with congressional representatives to advocate for sustainable federal support for programs that help strengthen the nursing pipeline and the foundation of evidence-based nursing science. The AACN attendees also requested support for policies that give nurses’ the ability to practice to the full extent of their education and training to ensure patients have access to high-quality care, now and in the future.
After the meetings, a reception was held on Capitol Hill for Congressional leaders, representatives, and the AACN conference attendees. Pictured at the reception are, Dean Fahrenwald, Dr. Pamela Schroeder, Chair, Nursing Department, Augustana University, and representatives for Senator John Thune, Colleen Leners, APRN, Health Policy Fellow, and Justin Bergeson, Legislative Correspondent. Dean Fahrenwald and Dr. Schroeder also met Peter Eckrich, Legislative Assistant for Senator Mike Rounds.
